Book Synopsis: Meghan Chase has a secret destiny—one she could never have imagined. . . Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan’s life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school. . . or at home. When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she’s known is about to change. But she could never have guessed the truth— that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she’ll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face. . . and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

Star Rating: 5 Stars

Opening Paragraph: Ten years ago on my sixth birthday, my father disappeared.     No, He didn’t leave. Leaving would imply suitcases and empty drawers, and late birthday cards with ten-dollar bills stuffed inside. Leaving would imply he was unhappy with Mom and me, or that he found a new Love elsewhere. None of that was true. He also did not die, because we would have heard about it. There was no car crash, no body, no police mingling about the scene of a brutal murder. It all happened very quietly.

I started this book when I first bought it in 2012 but then got distracted from reading it with other books and life in general so am glad that I have finally finished reading it. I have to thank the goodreads reading anything and everything group for pushing me to finish reading this book finally as it was one of their books for the month (January).

Julie Kagawa’s writing kept me hooked on the book once I started reading it again her descriptions of both characters and scenes were really detailed and made you feel like you were actually living the story yourself.  All the way through the book you really felt for Meghan because she not only had to come to terms with the fact that she was half fairy but was also desperately  trying to find her baby brother Ethan who had been kidnapped by one of the Fay Courts. Although all the trials and tribulations she went through while trying to find her brother were  really character building as well as enabling her to start to learn her powers.

I absolutely loved this book, thus why I gave it a five star rating, and fully intend to finish the series during the year as well as recommend it to other people.
